JDM Hot Wheels: A Collector's Guide to Skylines, Supras, RX-7s and More

Japanese performance cars, or JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) as collectors call them, are some of the most popular Hot Wheels ever made. Thanks to Gran Turismo, Initial D and the Fast & Furious films, cars like the Skyline GT-R and Supra sell out fast and hold their value well. Here's what to look for.

The big names

  • Nissan Skyline GT-R: the king of JDM. Hot Wheels has made the classic 'Hakosuka', the R32, R33 and R34, plus custom versions like the LBWK widebody.
  • Toyota Supra: the A80 (MK4) Supra is a Fast & Furious icon and one of the most wanted castings.
  • Mazda RX-7: both the FC and FD generations, including widebody Pandem versions.
  • Honda: Civics, the NSX and the S2000 are collector favourites.
  • Nissan Z, Silvia and Datsun: from the classic Datsun 510 to the 240Z and modern Z.
  • Rally legends: the Subaru Impreza WRX and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.

Mainline vs premium

Mainline JDM cars are cheap and fun to collect, and some are Treasure Hunts. Premium lines like Car Culture, Boulevard and Fast & Furious have metal bodies, rubber Real Riders tyres and more detailed paint. They cost more, and they're usually the ones that go up in value.

What makes a JDM Hot Wheels valuable?

  • A sealed, uncreased card, which is why we only sell cars still on the card
  • Popular castings like Skylines and Supras
  • Treasure Hunt and Super Treasure Hunt versions
  • First Editions, the first release of a new casting
  • Japan-only or limited releases
